Franco Mastantuono’s first season at Real Madrid did not go as many expected. The highly rated Argentine youngster, signed from River Plate for nearly €60 million, struggled to consistently display the talent that made him one of South America’s brightest prospects.

At just 18 years old, the attacking midfielder experienced a campaign filled with pressure, adaptation, and a noticeable lack of confidence. Far from the fearless player who dazzled in Argentina, Mastantuono often looked uncomfortable and unable to fully express himself within Madrid’s system.

Those who watched him closely at River Plate know the quality he possesses. He once carried the ball effortlessly and played with natural creativity and confidence. This season, however, he frequently appeared rushed, hesitant, and even insecure in simple situations — something many believe is more psychological than technical.

Still, inside the club there is one thing nobody questions: his commitment. Mastantuono quickly earned the respect of the dressing room thanks to his professionalism, humility, and willingness to adapt.

That emotional side became clear during Dani Carvajal’s farewell ceremony. While several players tried to remain composed, Mastantuono could not hold back his tears, creating one of the most touching moments of the season’s conclusion at the Santiago Bernabéu.
