Laporta Proposes a New Option to Keep Rashford
The case of Marcus Rashford is quite particular. A few months ago, everything pointed to his imminent departure, but now the situation has changed. The English forward has managed to earn a place in Hansi Flick’s system, often functioning as an important impact substitute for Barcelona.
The main problem is his cost. Rashford is at Barcelona on loan from Manchester United, and his purchase option is around €30 million, a figure that is currently difficult for the Catalan club’s finances. For that reason, Joan Laporta has proposed an alternative to try to keep the player in the squad.
Joan Laporta’s Strategy
If re-elected as president, Laporta will look to negotiate an extension of the loan deal. At the club, they are satisfied with the Englishman’s performances and believe he has adapted well to the discipline and playing style of Barcelona. However, this option will not be easy to finalize.
In Manchester, they do not seem willing to make things simple. Rashford has a contract until 2028, and the coaching staff at Manchester United, led by Michael Carrick, still has him on their radar. In fact, the English club would not be against his return, especially now that they are going through a restructuring process and need to recover several players developed in their academy.
Laporta has also mentioned the possibility of negotiating a partial payment or a more flexible financial formula for the forward, although that alternative does not seem very convincing in Old Trafford either, where they are not interested in conceding too much in the deal.
A Performance That Convinces at Barcelona
During his time with Barcelona, Rashford has played 38 matches, recording 10 goals and 15 assists. His contribution in chance creation has been notable, and he has become a useful piece, especially when coming off the bench.
To a large extent, the forward’s future will also depend on the club’s elections. This Sunday, elections will take place at Barcelona, and if Laporta wins, it is very likely he will begin negotiations with Manchester United to try to extend the Englishman’s stay.
However, if Víctor Font ends up winning the vote, the scenario could change completely, and Rashford would have a much greater chance of returning to England.
What is clear is that the forward has fit in well at Barcelona and seems comfortable with the team. The big question now is: will he still be wearing the blaugrana colors next season?
