The Catalan club is already mapping out its next major move in the transfer market. With Robert Lewandowski at 37 and just six months from the end of his contract, president Joan Laporta and coach Hansi Flick are laying the foundations for a transition — and their target: Harry Kane. According to The Guardian, the England captain and current goal-machine at Bayern Munich is now the club’s primary candidate to lead the attack from summer 2026 onwards.

Why Is Harry Kane the Chosen One?

Barcelona believe Kane is the natural heir to Lewandowski, both because of his style of play and his lethal instinct in front of goal. At 32, Kane is still operating at an elite level: 23 goals and 3 assists in 17 matches this season. The club also sees value in a release clause reportedly worth around €65 million (≈ £57 million), which becomes attainable in June — a figure that fits more comfortably given LaLiga’s financial constraints. 

Since his arrival at Bayern in 2023, Kane has amassed an incredible record of 108 goals in 113 appearances, cementing his status among world-class forwards.  At the Camp Nou they believe his experience and leadership could blend perfectly with youthful stars like Lamine Yamal and Pedri.

What Are the Obstacles Barcelona Face?

The road to bringing Kane to Spain is far from straightforward. Convincing Bayern Munich will be tough — the club paid around €100 million for him in 2023 and were reportedly prepared to break their “no renewals over 30” policy to keep him. On top of that, Kane has publicly stated he is happy in Munich and open to extending his contract beyond 2027.

LaLiga’s strict financial-fair-play rules present another significant hurdle. Barcelona would need to off-load players and free up salary space before embarking on such a major signing, especially if Flick also wants to reinforce other areas like defence in the same window.

And what does this mean for Lewandowski? The veteran Polish forward, whose contract ends in 2026, remains important now but is clearly part of a succession plan. Laporta aims to avoid repeating past mistakes by securing a top-tier replacement before the decline becomes too obvious. The club’s sporting direction appears convinced that Kane is the ideal successor — a world-class goalscorer who ensures immediate competitiveness.

If Barcelona manage to land Harry Kane, it would be more than a signing — it would be a declaration of intent. The club wants to reclaim Europe’s elite status and won’t shy away from bold targets.
