Casillas Sends Enigmatic Message Against Mourinho
Every time Iker Casillas speaks about Real Madrid, it sparks conversation. And now, amid rumors surrounding a possible return of José Mourinho to the club’s bench, the legendary Spanish goalkeeper once again left a message that many interpreted as a subtle jab at the Portuguese manager.
Casillas posted a list of coach names on his social media without adding any context or explanation. The message was brief, but enough to fuel speculation in Spain about his apparent opposition to Mourinho’s return to the Santiago Bernabéu.
The Broken Relationship Between Casillas and Mourinho
The relationship between the two never ended well. During Mourinho’s time at Real Madrid, one of the most controversial episodes was his conflict with Iker Casillas. “The Special One” eventually benched the club captain after suspecting the goalkeeper of leaking locker room information to the Spanish press. That decision created division inside the club and marked the beginning of the tension between the coach and much of the squad.
Since then, the relationship between Mourinho and Iker has remained completely fractured. In fact, the former goalkeeper had already publicly expressed his disagreement with the idea of seeing the Portuguese manager back on the sidelines at the Bernabéu. In a previous statement, he said: “I don’t want him at Real Madrid. I think there are other coaches who are better suited.”
Casillas believes the Portuguese coach is not the ideal person to handle the difficult moment the club is currently experiencing, especially regarding locker room management and internal team dynamics.

Mourinho’s Possible Return Divides Opinions
Despite that, rumors about Mourinho’s return continue to grow. Several European media outlets claim that Florentino Pérez sees the Portuguese manager as someone capable of restoring authority within the team and guiding Real Madrid back to winning titles after two disappointing seasons.
Additionally, Mourinho already knows what it means to successfully return to a club. During his second spell with Chelsea, he managed to win the Premier League and the League Cup once again, proving he can rebuild struggling projects.
For now, nothing is official, but the possibility of Mourinho returning is already dividing opinions among Real Madrid fans — and also among some of the club’s legends.
