Álvaro Arbeloa Faces a Break at a Key Moment in the Season
Real Madrid: Arbeloa Takes Advantage of the Break to Prepare for the Season’s Crucial Moment
Real Madrid’s early exit from the Copa del Rey, after being eliminated in the round of 16 by Albacete, gives Álvaro Arbeloa the opportunity to work intensively with the team, reintegrate players returning from injury, and improve the squad’s physical condition under the guidance of Antonio Pintus. With only one match in twelve days, at Mestalla against Valencia, the coach aims to lay a solid foundation for the final stretch of the season.
Tactical and Physical Work After an Intense Start
Since taking over the first team from Castilla on January 13, Arbeloa has managed six matches in just 20 days (four wins and two losses), a schedule that has limited on-field training, tactical adjustments, and physical preparation.
“We have to work on all phases of the game, improve with and without the ball, and ensure everyone thinks the same way. To achieve this, we need to train for many hours on the field, and that’s what we’ll be doing over the next two weeks,” Arbeloa said in a press conference.
After the hard-fought victory over Rayo Vallecano, with a 100th-minute penalty, the players were given two consecutive days off, returning to training on Wednesday at noon at Ciudad Real Madrid. The goal is to disconnect and relieve the pressure that has built up since Xabi Alonso’s departure and Arbeloa’s arrival.
Recovery of Key Players and Physical Preparation
Álvaro Arbeloa will have four training sessions to prepare for the trip to Mestalla and find alternatives for the absences of Jude Bellingham, sidelined for a month, and Vinícius Jr., suspended due to accumulated cards.
- Antonio Pintus, returning after six months, will use longer sessions to improve fitness and reduce injury risk.
- Raúl Asencio will rest after requesting a substitution against Rayo due to fatigue, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Rüdiger, and Mendy will increase their training load and could return on Saturday.
- Dani Carvajal, who has played just 27 minutes since his return on January 3, will aim to regain match rhythm and prove he’s ready to start.
- Vinícius Jr. will have two weeks to recover energy and reach peak condition for the decisive phase of the season.
A Critical Moment for Real Madrid
With only one match in twelve days and the final stretch of LaLiga and the Champions League approaching, Arbeloa will need to manage the team’s physical condition, tactics, and morale to ensure Real Madrid arrives at its best for the moments that will define the season.
