Joan Laporta Threatens to Request a Replay of El Clásico!
The Barcelona president issued a statement announcing that they will request all VAR images and audio from the RFEF regarding Lamine's phantom goal.
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta does not rule out requesting a replay of the league Clásico that ended in a 3-2 victory for Real Madrid if it is ultimately proven that Lamine Yamal's phantom goal was legal.
"As a club, we want to be certain about what happened, which is why FC Barcelona will immediately request the Technical Referees Committee (CTA) and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to provide us with all images and audio generated by the play," Laporta explained during an institutional press conference broadcast by the media of the Barcelona club.
Laporta emphasized that "if, after reviewing this evidence, the club determines that an error was made in assessing the play," they will take "all necessary actions to reverse the situation, including taking legal measures if necessary."
And if it is confirmed that it was a legal goal, Barça does not rule out "requesting a replay of the match, as has occurred in a European match due to a VAR error."
Beyond the play involving Lamine Yamal's phantom goal, Joan Laporta also expressed "disagreement with various decisions during the match that, despite being reviewable by VAR, were not consulted by the referee in an incomprehensible manner."
"As president of FC Barcelona, I want to convey the dissatisfaction that results from the misuse of a tool like VAR impacting the agenda the day after one of the most important matches on the world calendar," lamented Laporta, who sought to justify the club's stance to members and fans after the team's experience with refereeing at the Bernabéu.
"We are facing a situation of helplessness after suffering numerous incidents on the field that have either hurt us or benefited our rival, and combined, these contribute to the point gap at the top of La Liga," he concluded.
