With seven wins, two draws and just one defeat, the so-called Blue Sharks proved that their rise in international football is no coincidence. One of the key figures in their qualification run was Dailon Livramento, the team’s top scorer during the qualifiers.

Another historic debutant is Curaçao, a small Caribbean nation with a population of just 150,000 people that secured qualification in the Concacaf region. The team, shocked many by finishing the qualifying stage undefeated across ten matches, including several dominant victories and a crucial draw against Jamaica that sealed their World Cup ticket.

Asia will also have two new representatives making their World Cup debut.

Jordan qualified after finishing second in its group during the decisive phase of the Asian qualifiers. The team relied heavily on its attacking strength, led by Ali Olwan, who played a crucial role in their successful campaign.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan secured a historic qualification after finishing second in its group behind Iran. Under the guidance of former World Cup champion Fabio Cannavaro, the team showed impressive consistency with six wins, three draws and only one defeat in the decisive stage of qualifying.

Two more nations could still join the list

Although four debutants are already confirmed, the number could increase before the tournament kicks off.

Suriname and New Caledonia still have a chance to secure their place through the intercontinental playoff tournament, which will take place in Mexico.

If both nations manage to win their respective playoff paths, the 2026 World Cup could feature up to six debuting teams, something rarely seen in the history of the tournament.

This perfectly reflects the impact of the new format, which aims to further globalize football and allow emerging nations to take part in the sport’s biggest competition.
