Jürgen Klopp Agrees in Principle To Become Germany’s New Head Coach

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has reached an agreement in principle with the German Football Association to become the country's next national team coach following Julian Nagelsmann's departure.

Jürgen Klopp is on the verge of taking charge of the Germany men's national team after reaching an agreement in principle with the German Football Association (DFB).

The federation confirmed that Klopp is expected to replace Julian Nagelsmann, who will step down following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to the DFB, both sides have agreed on the key terms of the contract, with formal negotiations set to continue next week.

The only remaining hurdle is reaching an agreement with Klopp's current employer, Red Bull.

The 59-year-old has been away from coaching since leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season, bringing an unforgettable nine-year spell at Anfield to a close.

During his time in England, Klopp restored Liverpool to the top of European football, winning the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups.

Should the appointment be finalized, Germany would become only the fourth team managed by Klopp during his coaching career. Before Liverpool, he established himself at Mainz 05 and later enjoyed tremendous success with Borussia Dortmund, where he won two Bundesliga titles and guided the club to a Champions League final.

His appointment would mark the beginning of a new era for Germany as the four-time world champions look to rebuild following the 2026 World Cup and prepare for the UEFA Euro 2028 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
