From Argentina to Kansas City: The Incredible Bike Journey to See Lionel Messi at the 2026 World Cup
For nearly 10 months, they crossed 17 countries and traveled almost 17,000 kilometers by bicycle. All for one reason: to follow Argentina and fulfill the dream of seeing Lionel Messi at the 2026 World Cup.
A World Cup Dream That Began Long Before the Draw
While millions of fans planned trips, bought jerseys, or waited for ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup, three Argentines decided to take their passion for football to an entirely different level.
Vicente Conculini, Yamandu Martínez, and Miguel Silio embarked on an adventure that sounds straight out of a movie. In August 2025, they left Argentina without knowing exactly where Lionel Messi's national team would play, but with one certainty: they would reach wherever La Albiceleste was.
What followed was a journey of nearly ten months, more than 16,900 kilometers traveled, 17 countries crossed, and countless stories accumulated along the way. When they finally arrived in Kansas City, the base camp location for Argentina during the World Cup, they had not only completed one of the most extraordinary football-related journeys ever, but had also become protagonists in a story that reflects the global reach of Argentina's national team.
Cold, Altitude, and Rain: The Challenges Few Can Imagine
The three supporters crossed regions of Bolivia and Peru, where they rode at altitudes exceeding 5,000 meters above sea level. The combination of extreme elevation, freezing temperatures, and demanding terrain turned parts of the route into true tests of physical and mental endurance.
They also endured heavy rain, powerful winds, scorching heat, and endless stretches of road where the bicycle effectively became their home.
Each bike carried roughly 80 pounds of equipment. Winter and summer clothing, tools, food supplies, tents, and sleeping bags were all part of the load they hauled for nearly 300 days.
Perhaps the most surprising detail is that none of them consider themselves professional cyclists. By their own admission, they simply found in cycling the perfect way to combine two passions: traveling and following Argentina's national team.
Kansas City Welcomed the World Cup's Unexpected Heroes
Their arrival in Kansas City turned into an unexpected celebration.
As news of their journey spread, local cyclists and football fans decided to join them for the final miles of the trip. What began as a personal adventure evolved into a welcoming caravan filled with Argentine music, applause, photographs, and admiration.
The most emotional moment came when they reached the hotel where Argentina's national team is staying. There, they were greeted by members of the media and supporters who recognized the magnitude of their accomplishment.

One Final Dream Remains: Meeting Messi and Getting Into the World Cup
The three fans arrived in Kansas City without tickets to Argentina's matches. They attempted to secure seats through official sales channels but were unsuccessful.
Now they are hoping for another opportunity to enter the stadium when La Albiceleste begins its World Cup campaign.
For them, however, attending a match was never the only objective. Their biggest dream remains surprisingly simple: for Lionel Messi and members of the Argentina squad to come out, say hello, take a picture, or sign an autograph.
After crossing through several countries, enduring extreme conditions, and turning their bicycles into homes for nearly ten months, it seems like a modest request.
