Barcelona took the lead in the 23rd minute through Héctor Villalba, while Botafogo equalized in the 66th minute thanks to Matheus Martins.
Late in the match, Barcelona head coach César Farías was shown a red card following an incident with Alexander Barboza. The decisive second leg will take place next Tuesday in Brazil.
