Byekwaso Banking on Tactical Adjustments and Fan Support

On Monday night, at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda will take on Niger in a match that could define their fate in the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN). The challenge is clear: a win for Uganda would push them closer to the knockout stage, while a loss for Niger could mean elimination.

Uganda head coach Morley Byekwaso stated that his team will not simply repeat the game plan used in their victory over Guinea. “No two games are the same. Each match presents different challenges, but we will keep the core of the team that was solid,” he said. He also urged fans to pack the stands: “This match is decisive for our qualification hopes. We need our supporters in large numbers.”

Defender Gavin Mugweri Kizito warned against underestimating Niger despite their opening defeat. “We don’t assume it will be easy. The goal is to win and keep a clean sheet to maintain the team’s confidence.”

Niger Looking to Correct Mistakes

On Niger’s side, head coach Harouna Doulla stressed discipline, pressure, and making the most of his squad’s strengths. “We have to fix mistakes and stay focused. We are ready to face the crowd’s pressure; it’s part of the game’s spectacle,” he said.

Captain Abdoul Kahar Issoufou Boubacar called for caution and optimism: “Against Uganda we will play focused to avoid mistakes. Nothing is impossible.”
