The Falcao Objective: Luis Díaz’s Plan To Become the Most Lethal Colombian in Europe
With 30 goal involvements, Luis Díaz is closing in on the historic European records held by Falcao and James Rodríguez while shining as Bayern Munich's crown jewel.
The Luis Díaz phenomenon in the Bundesliga shows no signs of slowing down. After securing his second hat-trick in Europe, the Colombian winger has set a clear sights on toppling the legendary records held by Radamel "El Tigre" Falcao. To make history, Díaz needs to accumulate 14 more goal involvements (goals or assists) before the season ends.
Surpassing the Legends
The math is simple yet daunting. Between August 2010 and May 2011, Falcao became the Colombian with the most goals created in a single European season, totaling 43 involvements while leading Porto to a historic treble. Not even James Rodríguez, during his peak at Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti, could overcome the Tiger's mark.
As of today, Díaz’s performance under Vincent Kompany has been breathtaking:
- 18 goals (already surpassing his personal best of 17 with Liverpool).
- 12 assists.
- 30 total goal involvements.
With three months of the season remaining, "Lucho" needs just 5 more "holy shouts" to surpass James and 14 to reach the throne held by Falcao for nearly 15 years.
The "Whirlwind" of Bavaria
The leadership at Bayern Munich is captivated. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and Sporting Director Max Eberl described the Colombian as a "true whirlwind" following his hat-trick against Hoffenheim. In Germany, he is already being hailed as one of the signings of the year, leading a project that sits atop the Bundesliga with a six-point lead over Borussia Dortmund.
The Road Ahead: Champions League and Beyond
In the short term, the Bavarian giants face a heavy schedule, including a German Cup quarter-final against Leipzig and the highly anticipated "Der Klassiker" against Dortmund on February 28th. On the European front, Bayern will learn their Champions League round of 16 opponent on March 11th. The rival will emerge from the winners of the Dortmund vs. Atalanta or Olympiacos vs. Bayer Leverkusen ties.
As the path to the final in Budapest becomes clear, Luis Díaz looks to capture his first European Cup while cementing his status as a legendary figure for Colombian football.
