Ancelotti Praises Xabi Alonso and Talks About Everything: Endrick, Vinicius, and Rodrygo
Carlo Ancelotti, current Brazil manager and one of the most decorated coaches in Real Madrid’s history, returned to the spotlight in an exclusive interview with Diario AS, where he reflected on his current role with the Seleção and his continued bond with several of his former players at the Spanish club. From his support for Xabi Alonso to his thoughts on Endrick, Vinicius Jr., and Rodrygo Goes, the Italian coach offered a calm yet firm perspective on the present and future of his former pupils.
“What More Could You Ask of Xabi?”
Ancelotti had no hesitation in defending Xabi Alonso, his successor on the Real Madrid bench. The former Madrid boss praised the Basque coach’s work despite the team’s recent results.
“A draw at Real Madrid is the prelude to a crisis. The team’s results have been spectacular so far. What more could you ask for?” he said.
The veteran coach, who won 15 trophies with Los Blancos—including three Champions Leagues, two LaLiga titles, and three UEFA Super Cups—knows better than anyone the pressure that comes with managing at the Santiago Bernabéu: “I lived through similar moments. At Madrid, winning is never enough, and drawing feels like a disaster. But Xabi is doing an extraordinary job.”
Endrick, Vinicius, and Rodrygo: His Take on Brazil’s Future
The Brazil coach also discussed the current situations of his three brightest attacking prospects. On Endrick, who has barely played for Real Madrid, Ancelotti admitted: “He needs to play again. He’s young but needs continuity to grow. Sometimes, it’s just about understanding the player’s moment and guiding him.”

Regarding Vinicius Jr., Ancelotti praised his maturity and ability to take on a leadership role for both Madrid and the national team: “He’s always under the spotlight, but he’s learned to live with that pressure. Today, he’s one of the best players in the world.”
As for Rodrygo, Ancelotti’s comments were even more personal: “I didn’t do anything special; I just understood his problem and helped him overcome it. He has great talent and character. I’m sure he’ll shine again.”
The “Canarinha” Under His Command
As Brazil’s manager, Ancelotti has recorded three wins, one draw, and two losses in six matches, with the goal of fine-tuning his squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The upcoming friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia, to be played in London and Lille, will be the last of the year before he announces his final squad for the big tournament.
The Italian coach remains optimistic about the team’s progress: “We have a solid foundation and players with world-class talent. The key now is to consolidate our identity and maintain unity within the group.”
