Vinicius to Saudi Arabia? The Possibility Can't Be Ruled Out
Saudi Arabian football continues to set its sights on global stars, with Vinícius Jr. being one of its primary targets. The Real Madrid player, regarded as one of the best in the world and a contender for the next Ballon d'Or, has been tempted by the substantial financial resources of Saudi football. Despite being at the pinnacle of his career with the reigning La Liga and Champions League champions, the financial allure from Saudi Arabia has caught the attention of the Brazilian’s camp.
This summer, it was revealed that Al-Ahli of Jeddah was one of the main clubs interested in signing Vinícius. Reports indicated that there were discussions between representatives of the Saudi Sovereign Investment Fund and the player’s entourage, who were offered record-breaking figures to persuade him to leave Real Madrid. Some astronomical figures were mentioned, with a potential salary close to one billion euros for a five-year contract, which would have made it the most lucrative deal in sports history.
Despite the interest, both Vinícius and Real Madrid remained resolute. The Madrid club made it clear that the player has a release clause of 1 billion euros and did not entertain offers. Vinícius, while open to considering what Saudi Arabia had to offer, never forced a move or signaled a desire to leave the club. Both Real Madrid and the Brazilian are currently focused on pursuing new successes together.
However, the interest from Saudi clubs has not waned. Khaled Al Issa, an executive at Al-Ahli, confirmed in a recent interview that the club attempted to sign Vinícius following the departure of Allan Saint-Maximin to Fenerbahçe. Although they eventually opted for Ivan Toney, the desire to acquire the Brazilian remains. Al Issa stated that the club will return to pursue an elite winger in the winter market, with Vinícius being a key target.
For now, Vinícius will travel to Saudi Arabia in January 2025 to compete in the Spanish Super Cup. Yet, the Saudi interest remains a persistent threat. The country continues to seek prominent names to elevate its football to the highest level, and with his youth and potential, Vinícius remains one of the most coveted players to achieve that goal.
