Jürgen Klopp Takes on New Role with Multiple Teams!
The German coach has reached an agreement with Red Bull to become the Global Head of Football for their various sports clubs.
German coach Jürgen Klopp, who managed Liverpool until last season, has been appointed as the new "Global Head of Football" for Austrian energy drink multinational Red Bull, which owns and sponsors several sports clubs. Klopp will take on this role starting in January 2025, with a five-year term.
Within the company, the charismatic German coach will be the main figure responsible for the international network and strategic direction of all football clubs under Red Bull's umbrella, such as Leipzig, Salzburg, New York, and Brazil's Bragantino.
"I want to develop, improve, and support the incredible football talent we have," Klopp explained in a post shared on Red Bull’s social media.
According to reports by the newspaper Bild and the television channel Sky, the key figure behind this move is Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff, who has overseen all of the company’s sports projects since 2022 and was previously the CEO of Leipzig. The reports suggest Mintzlaff had been pursuing Klopp for several months.
The German publication expanded on the news, stating that Klopp's new role is intended to be "a high-level position, not a day-to-day job," where he will bring his expertise, experience, and charisma as a "mix of strategist, analyst, and consultant on transfers, coaches, and club development."
The report also noted that with this new role, "a return to coaching is off the table for now." Klopp's five-year contract does not include any exit clauses, even for a potential national team position.
This would mean that if, after the 2026 World Cup—when Julian Nagelsmann’s current contract with the German national team ends—the German Football Association (DFB) were to show interest in Klopp, Red Bull’s approval would be required.
In September, DFB sporting director Rudi Völler said in an interview that "if Julian Nagelsmann at some point decides to return to coaching a top club, then, of course," they would consider Jürgen Klopp, "if he’s interested."
