”Checo” Pérez Receives Unexpected Praise From the Cadillac Boss Amid His Possible Return to Formula 1
Sergio "Checo" Pérez is back in the spotlight, not for a race performance this time, but because of growing rumors linking him to Cadillac Racing, one of the new teams set to join Formula 1 in the 2026 season.
After parting ways with Red Bull Racing in December 2024, the Mexican driver took a step back from F1. However, he left the door open by stating he would return only if the right project came along. “If the right opportunity comes, where I feel I can give 100%, I’ll be back. If not, I’m happy with what I’ve achieved,” he said at the time.
Checo Pérez Receives Unexpected Praise from Cadillac Boss Amid F1 Comeback Rumors
Speculation about his return has intensified after comments from Graeme Lowdon, Cadillac’s team boss, who didn’t hesitate to highlight Checo’s strengths. “Checo is undoubtedly a world-class driver. His experience and speed are impressive. He’s exactly the kind of talent we’d like to talk to,” he stated.

Lowdon also mentioned that the team is focused on building a solid lineup, and driver synergy will be essential. While he didn’t confirm a deal with Pérez, he admitted they’ve been in talks with several candidates and that the Mexican is someone he knows well and has great respect for.
According to international outlets like Auto Motor und Sport, Cadillac may already have a pre-agreement with Checo Pérez to make him their lead driver in 2026. The official announcement could come right after the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, the American team is evaluating who would be the ideal teammate for Checo. The top contenders are Valtteri Bottas and Mick Schumacher, both experienced in the top tier of motorsport. However, Bottas —currently a reserve driver for Mercedes and known for his consistent performance and podiums— appears to be leading the race.
With his comeback seemingly around the corner, Checo Pérez’s future in F1 could be reignited. Fans are eagerly waiting for the official confirmation that would mark the return of one of Latin America's most iconic motorsport figures.
