Luka Doncic Breaks His Silence on Bam Adebayo’s Record With an Intriguing Response
Bam Adebayo’s historic 83-point night shook the NBA. Luka Doncic, one of the league’s most lethal scorers, reacted to the record and gave an answer that sparks debate: could he surpass it one day?
Bam Adebayo makes history with 83 points and shocks the NBA
The NBA witnessed a historic night when Bam Adebayo delivered a performance that will be remembered for years. The Miami Heat center exploded for 83 points in a 150-129 win over the Washington Wizards, surpassing one of the most iconic scoring marks in basketball history: the 81 points scored by Kobe Bryant in 2006.
The performance was as dominant as it was spectacular. Adebayo finished the game shooting 20-of-43 from the field, but what truly stood out was his presence at the free-throw line. The big man also set a new NBA record by making 36 of 43 free throws, a stat that helped fuel his historic scoring total.
Naturally, whenever someone breaks the 80-point barrier, the same question arises: who will be the next player to do it?
And many eyes immediately turn to one name: Luka Doncic.
Luka Doncic reacts to Adebayo’s record
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar, who currently leads the NBA in scoring this season with 32.5 points per game, was asked about Adebayo’s incredible performance.
Rather than making a bold claim, Doncic responded with humility, though his words have already sparked debate among fans and analysts.
“That was very special. 83 points… not bad. Very special, congratulations to Bam. For me… I don’t know. Maybe someday, maybe not.”
The Slovenian star’s reaction shows clear respect for Adebayo’s achievement, but it also leaves a possibility open. And if there is one active player capable of approaching such unbelievable numbers, many believe Doncic is among the most likely candidates.
Doncic has already come close to a historic night
The idea of Luka Doncic surpassing 80 points is not far-fetched, especially considering the scoring explosions he has already delivered.
In 2024, while still playing for the Dallas Mavericks, the Slovenian guard dropped 73 points in a single game, one of the most remarkable offensive performances in recent NBA history.
That night was nearly flawless. Doncic finished with:
- 25-of-33 from the field
- 8-of-13 from three-point range
- 15-of-16 from the free-throw line
An astonishing level of efficiency that proved when he gets hot, he can become an unstoppable scoring machine.
And that was not his only statistical masterpiece. Back in 2022, also with the Mavericks, Doncic produced something never seen before: a triple-double with 60 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists in an overtime victory against the New York Knicks.

Could anyone break the 83-point barrier?
Although Bam Adebayo’s record is now part of NBA history, many analysts believe someone will eventually surpass it.
In the case of Luka Doncic, all those elements could align again at some point.
For now, the Slovenian star prefers to stay grounded. But his response left one intriguing possibility hanging in the air.
“Maybe someday.”
