Wolves started brightly and were awarded a penalty after a VAR review after just four minutes, as Florentino was adjudged to have handled inside the penalty area, with Adam Armstrong scoring from 12 yards.

Rob Edwards's side went close to a second when Mateus Mane breezed clear of a couple of Burnley challenges, before cutting onto his left foot and striking a curling effort that Max Weiss tipped onto the post.

Weiss also kept out a strike from close range by Santiago Bueno, after fellow defender Ladislav Krejci had glanced a header towards goal from a corner.

Burnley produced little of note in the first half but did go close on the stroke of half-time through a rasping effort from Florentino, which had to be kept out by a diving save from Jose Sa.

The Clarets were much improved after the break and were back on level terms in the 46th minute after Loum Tchaouna teed up Zian Flemming to curl a brilliant shot into the corner of the net.

They began to dominate as Florentino's cross evaded everyone in the penalty area and struck the post, while Sa made a fine stop to deny Hannibal Mejbri.

The Portugal international also kept out efforts from Lucas Pires and Ashley Barnes, with the latter possibly making his final appearance for the club from the bench.

Wolves did not carry nearly as much of a threat in the second half, though Mane did go close to finding a winner with a swerving effort from distance in the 88th minute.
