The summer so far…
It’s been a revolving door of transfer ins and outs this summer at Chelsea. No fewer than 14 players have left the club including Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and club legend César Azpilicueta. Whilst seven players (to date) have come in including Robert Sánchez, Nicolas Jackson and France international attacker Christopher Nkunku have joined the club. Mauricio Pochettino has been tasked with overhauling the side and drastically improving the fortunes of Chelsea who finished a miserable twelfth place last season.
Player to watch…
With former youth team star Mason Mount heading to Manchester United, Reece James will be the home-reared fan favourite. The right-back had an injury-hit campaign last season and has impressed so far on preseason. Having lifted the Champions League, the England international is a critical link between the Chelsea of old and the new, dynamic Chelsea which is currently being created by owner Todd Bohley and Mauricio Pochettino.
Kit Watch
The marketing for the new kits hails the 90’s as being an inspiration when it’s quite clearly based on the 00’s. Add in the fact that Chelsea has yet to secure a kit sponsor and well frankly it just looks a little bland. 0.5/5
Predicted Finish – 6th
No European commitments could be a blessing in disguise for Pochettino and his expensive squad of highly-rated youngsters. The issue for Chelsea this season will again be down to the patience of their owners. Should they keep the faith and stay with the Argentinian, he will likely deliver European football.
