Trouble-making Bodo confident of reaching quarter-finals, says Fet
Bodo/Glimt put themselves in a strong position to reach the Champions League quarter-finals after thumping Sporting CP 3-0.
Sondre Fet is confident Bodo/Glimt can get the job done and reach the Champions League quarter-finals after their big first-leg victory over Sporting CP on Wednesday.
Fet was on target at Aspmyra Stadion as Bodo ran out 3-0 victors ahead of next week's second leg, with Ole Blomberg and Kasper Hogh also getting on the scoresheet.
Kjetil Knutsen's side went in front in the 32nd minute when Fet tucked home from the penalty spot after he was clumsily bundled over inside the area by Georgios Vagiannidis.
Bodo pulled further clear in first-half stoppage time through Blomberg's well-taken finish before Hogh sealed the deal with 19 minutes of the encounter remaining.
The Norwegians have now won all of their last five Champions League matches, becoming only the sixth team from outside Europe's big five leagues to record such a streak.
They were helped by their free-scoring line-up. In Jens Petter Hauge, Fet, Blomberg and Hogh, Bodo have four different players who have been involved in at least five goals in the Champions League this season, with only Bayern Munich having more players doing so in 2025-26 (five).
And Fet, whose spot-kick was Bodo's 20th goal in the Champions League, making his team only the second from Norway to reach this milestone after Rosenborg (95), fancies his team's chances in Portugal next week.
"It’s a very good feeling, I am quite happy with my own and my team's performance," Fet told UEFA.com.
"It was quite an open game. We could have controlled it more, but it was quite a good performance against a good team.
"It will be a really difficult game in Lisbon [next Tuesday], but if we just continue the way we defend and attack as a team, I think we could also make trouble for them there."
After their first-leg victory, Bodo are assigned a 90% chance of reaching the quarter-finals by the Opta supercomputer.
When asked how Bodo would attack the second leg, Fet said: "Just continue the way we've defended as a team and attacked as a team.
"And I think we can make trouble for them down there as well."
Bodo boss Knutsen was thrilled with the victory, though warned his team they were second-best in the second half, and urged them to improve if they are to set up a tie with either Arsenal or Bayer Leverkusen in the quarter-finals.
"We feel really good and I liked how we played, especially how we played in the first half," Knutsen said. "They gave us a lot of space and I think we took the space.
"We found Patrick Berg. We have higher numbers when we attack in the last third, so it was a good game for us.
"But in the second half we were too open. We gave up too many counterattacks, so I think we were struggling a little bit more in the second half."
Sporting, meanwhile, endured their heaviest away defeat in the Champions League since losing 4-1 to Marseille in October 2022 and defender Goncalo Inacio conceded his team were worthy of their first-leg deficit.
"We weren't able to get the timing right with our pressing and we lacked attitude on our part," Inacio said.
"It ended up being a fair defeat. Bodo/Glimt had more possession and a lot of it was down to us not being able to get the timing right with our pressing on the opposition."
