Gian Piero Gasperini lamented the decision that resulted in Wesley's sending off in Roma's 2-1 defeat to Como, suggesting it was a glaring error by the officials. 

In a battle between the two top-four hopefuls in Serie A on Sunday, Diego Carlos's 79th-minute strike completed a comeback victory for Como at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. 

Donyell Malen's penalty in the seventh minute had given Roma the lead, but Tasos Douvikas came off the bench to restore parity in the contest just before the hour mark. 

But the decisive moment came just five minutes later when Wesley, who was already on a booking, appeared to bring down Assane Diao with a mistimed tackle in midfield. 

The result saw Roma lose a Serie A match from a winning position for the first time since 10th February 2024 against Inter, though Gasperini was left frustrated by the red card. 

"I have already seen the Wesley incident. It is pointless to comment on this trend in football, especially regarding dives," Gapserini told DAZN as quoted by Football Italia. 

"It was, unfortunately, a decisive episode, just like the one for their equaliser. We defended the cutbacks well, but at that moment, we were not good enough.

"Some of it is down to us, and it is not a great moment, but these are glaring episodes that are hard to ignore."

Gasperini also acknowledged the impact of not having Malen in the final third, with the in-form Dutchman replaced by Robinio Vaz with 23 minutes of the match remaining. 

Malen's spot-kick means he has scored seven goals in Serie A this season. Only three players in Roma's history have scored more goals, all in the second half of the season for the Giallorossi, in a single Serie A campaign. 

He also registered team-high totals for shots (two) and touches in the opposition's box (three). 

"We do rely on him, understandably, given how many goals we score," Gasperini conceded.

"He creates clear, clean chances every match, that means the team is working well and building correctly."

But there was no time to rest for Gasperini, who will aim to pick up his players ahead of their Europa League last 16 second leg with Bologna on Thursday. 

The two sides head into the clash level at 1-1 following the first leg, and Gasperini has urged his players to put their league disappointment quickly behind them. 

"The players are young, and some have experience; they must recover their energy quickly," Gasperini added.

"The suspensions disrupt our continuity, but Thursday is an important match, and we must be ready."
