Ipswich boosts promotion hopes with narrow win
Ipswich Town boosted its Championship promotion hopes as Azor Matusiwa secured a narrow 1-0 victory over play-off rival Hull City.
Matusiwa's stunning long-range strike sealed the win 19 minutes from time to move Kieran McKenna's side three points behind second-place Middlesbrough, with a game in hand.
Ipswich carried the greater threat during the first half in the battle between fourth and fifth in the Championship, going close through Jack Taylor and George Hirst.
Yet, it was not until the 71st minute that they found the breakthrough, as Matusiwa beat Hull goalkeeper Ivor Pandur with a stunning effort that flashed in off the underside of the crossbar.
Pandur came to the visitor's rescue soon after with a smart save to deny Clarke, but the single goal was enough to seal the Tractor Boys' 12th home win of the campaign.
