Formula 1 to return to Turkey from 2027 in five-year deal
Istanbul Park rejoins the Formula 1 calendar under a new five-year agreement.
The Turkish Grand Prix will return to the Formula 1 calendar from 2027 under a new five-year agreement, with Istanbul Park confirmed as the host venue, it was announced on Friday (April 24).
Formula 1 last raced at Istanbul Park in 2020 and 2021, with Lewis Hamilton securing his seventh Drivers’ Championship at the circuit in 2020 - equalling Michael Schumacher’s all-time record. The most recent winner at the venue was Valtteri Bottas, who claimed victory in 2021 with Mercedes. Bottas and Hamilton - now driving for Cadillac and Ferrari respectively - remain the only current drivers to have won the Turkish Grand Prix.
Felipe Massa holds the record for the most victories at Istanbul Park, having secured three consecutive wins from 2006 to 2008 with Ferrari. Other past winners at the circuit include Kimi Räikkönen, Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button.
First introduced to the calendar in 2005, Istanbul Park quickly gained a reputation as one of Formula 1’s most technically demanding circuits.
The 5.33-kilometre layout features sweeping corners and dramatic elevation changes, placing a premium on both driver skill and car performance. The multi-apex Turn 8 stands out as a defining feature - an incredible test of driver precision and commitment, challenging their ability to maintain speed and balance through its long, sweeping left-hander.
