Flick thrilled Lewandowski signed off from Barcelona with goal
Robert Lewandowski has played his final game for Barcelona and scored one last goal to round off his time with the LaLiga champions.
Hansi Flick was thrilled that Robert Lewandowski marked his final Barcelona game with a goal, despite ending the season with a defeat.
The LaLiga champions gave up a lead, given to them by Lewandowski, in a 3-1 defeat to Valencia on Saturday.
Javi Guerra, Luis Rioja and Guido Rodriguez were all on the scoresheet for the hosts at the Estadio de Mestalla.
Lewandowski still set a personal record in his final game, having announced earlier this month that he would not be renewing his Barcelona contract.
He scored 10 goals against a single LaLiga opponent (10 goals in seven games against Valencia) for the first time.
"Simply, when you see the 0-1, you think that during his career he has always been in the right position at the right time," Flick said of Lewandowski.
"He deserved to play this match and a farewell like the one he had from the fans. When you lose a game, you are disappointed; that's what I can say.
"But I'm happy with the season, and I'm happy."
Barcelona have won the last two LaLiga titles, leading Flick to sign a new two-year contract following their latest success.
The Blaugrana finished the season with 94 points, eight clear of second-place Real Madrid, having missed the chance to record their fourth-highest points tally in a single LaLiga campaign with a win over Valencia.
"Now I have to analyse things to improve in the future," Flick said when asked what was to come next season.
"There were things today that were not quite right, but the season has been good, we are champions, and now we are going on holiday and preparing for another season."
