Ajax squad ravaged by coronavirus outbreak
Ajax has named a squad of just 17 players for Wednesday's (AEDT) Champions League meeting with Midtjylland due to a reported coronavirus outbreak in its camp.
According to Dutch outlets De Telegraaf and RTL Nieuws, 11 players from the first and second team tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the trip to Denmark.
The club has not confirmed the reason for the reduced numbers in its travelling party.
Ryan Gravenberch, Davy Klaassen, Dusan Tadic, Andre Onana and Maarten Stekelenburg have been omitted from Ajax's group.
Kjell Scherpen, who has yet to make a senior appearance for the Eredivise side, is therefore the only goalkeeper available to Erik ten Hag for the game.
Ajax has picked up one point from its opening two Group D matches with Liverpool and Atalanta, leaving it in need of a positive result against Midtjylland.
Under UEFA rules, Ajax must play the game if 13 or more players on its A list are available.
