Barty time for Ashleigh after first WTA title
Nao Hibino was unable to cope with the brilliance of Ashleigh Barty as she broke her duck on the WTA circuit.
Ashleigh Barty claimed her first title on the WTA Tour by beating Nao Hibino in straight sets in the Malaysian Open final.
The 20 year-old Australian qualifier, who had never reached the semi-final stage at this level before the tournament in Kuala Lumpur, confidently downed the Japanese 6-3 6-2 to get her hands on the trophy.
Barty won the opening three games before Hibino fended off two break points to get on the board, and a rain delay at 4-1 in the first set did little to dampen the Queenslander's energy.
Hibino dug in to hold her serve twice upon the resumption of play but Barty served out the set to love, and she continued to apply the pressure in the second.
The Japanese was unable to take advantage of the only break point that came her way and Barty kicked on to take the title in comfortable fashion.
