Neymar to undergo surgery, PSG confirms
Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar is set to miss the UEFA Champions League tie with Real Madrid as he will undergo surgery on a fractured foot, his club confirmed on Thursday (AEDT).
The joint decision was taken between medical staff from both the French champion and also the Brazil nation side, which will be hoping for Neymar's services at this year's FIFA World Cup in Russia.
"In accordance with the player, it has been decided that Neymar Jr will undergo surgery in Brazil at the end of this week," a club statement read.
"He will be operated on by Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar, accompanied by Professor Saillant, representing PSG."
Neymar was injured towards the end of PSG's 3-0 Le Classique win against Marseille.
He had been a doubt for the game owing to a virus, and ended up leaving the field on a stretcher in tears after landing awkwardly from a challenge with Bouna Sarr.
