No Drogba, no worries as Montreal stuns DC United
Montreal Impact shipped four goals past D.C. United in it's MLS Cup playoff on Friday (AEDT), despite missing star striker Didier Drogba.
Defender Laurent Ciman put the visitor ahead in the fourth minute, cushioning a corner kick past D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid for his first MLS playoff goal.
From there, Montreal didn't look back carving out a host of chances in a dominant display at RFK Stadium.
Mancosu put Impact ahead just before half-time, latching onto a pin-point pass from Ignacio Piattia to rifle the ball home from close range.
Mancosu doubled his account and dealt the hammer blow to DC in the 58th minute, rising above DC's defence to head home Oyongo's cross.
In Drogba's absence Piatti stepped up with a commanding display in midfield, and the Italian deservedly got on the scoresheet in the 83rd minute with a composed finish to put the game out of reach.
D.C. United rallied late with two stoppage time goals - a header from Lamar Neagle and a thunderbolt from Taylor Kemp, but it was too little too late as Mauro Biello's side booked a conference semi-final showdown against New York Red Bulls.
