Donovan hits out at Sounders over Messi comparison
United States legend Landon Donovan has condemned a tweet from Seattle Sounders, comparing its new signing - Jordan Morris - to Argentine superstar Lionel Messi.
A tweet from Seattle Sounders appearing to make a subtle comparison between Barcelona star Lionel Messi and the MLS club's new signing Jordan Morris, has prompted United States legend Landon Donovan to take to the social media site to criticise the club.
The Sounders announced the signing of highly-rated 21 year-old United States striker earlier on Friday, before brazenly posting this image.
The cheeky missive earned the ire of many fans, not least US national team legend Donovan, who replied with a message of his own:
Morris, coming in at 1.81 centimetres - 10 centimetres taller than Messi - has showed an eye for goal and handy turn of pace in his fledgling career, but comparisons to the five-time Ballon d'Or winner should probably end there.
Morris reportedly turned down an offer to join struggling Bundesliga club Werder Bremen after impressing it during a trial camp and friendly appearance, in which he produced an assist.
