Bulut set to snub A-League return
A return to the A-League for combustible striker Kerem Bulut has dimmed with the former Western Sydney Wanderers hit-man revealing interest from Belgium, Turkey and Greece.
Having negotiated an early release from Greek Super League side Iraklis after becoming disillusioned chasing unpaid wages, Bulut’s preferred option is to remain overseas, with a J-League club also tracking the now free agent.
“There’s only really one A-League club I’d really want to go to, to be honest and that's Western Sydney," said Bulut, who netted five goals in 13 appearances during his last short-term Wanderland stint last season.
“They would be the team for me if I were to return home. It’s the club were I felt comfortable and I just really want to go to a club now where I can get that same feeling again ... somewhere I am wanted and where I fit in."
Bulut is likely to make a final decision by this weekend as he weighs his future, explaining: “There are a few options there and I need to think about things and make the right decision.
“I don’t want to jump into anything too quickly. I have done that in the past and it hasn’t always been the right choice for me.
“That said, pre-season has started now at most clubs and I don’t want to miss too much. I want to hit the ground running wherever I go.”
Bulut knows what to expect in Turkey, where he is currently holidaying, having had spells at Akhisar Belediyespor and then on loan at Karşıyaka, prior to joining the Wanderers.
After 23 games for Iraklis, playing out of position wide on the left or right, Bulut reiterated his determination to only sign for a club which sees him as a central striker charged with delivering in front of goal.
“I am coming off a full season and a feel fit and good and I want to build on that now," he said.
“It’s a matter of going somewhere where I can play in my natural role as an out and out a striker, and have a good connection with the club and the coach. That could be in Europe, Asia or wherever.”
Bulut knows he is far from the finished article, saying: “There's a lot more work I need to do to become a better player and realise my full potential.
“I need to be playing as a striker to do that, in the position I played with the national teams and with the Wanderers."
