Altidore to miss Copa America
Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore pulled up after a failed penalty kick against Vancouver on Sunday (AEST) and will now likely miss United States's run at the Copa America Centenario.
Jozy Altidore likely will not participate in the Copa America Centenario after scans determined the striker will require up to eight weeks to recover from a right hamstring injury, Toronto FC announced.
The US star appeared to hurt himself in the run-up to a penalty kick in TFC's 4-3 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday (AEST). Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted saved the 35th-minute attempt, and Altidore remained in the goulmouth for several seconds before indicating that he needed to be substituted.
Altidore has a recent history of hamstring troubles. He had to be assisted from the field in United States's opening match of the 2014 World Cup against Ghana after suffering a tear in his left hamstring, and he missed several weeks of Toronto's 2015 campaign with a strain. The 26-year-old also missed out on the first two games of TFC's 2016 campaign with a similar injury.
US coach Jurgen Klinsmann is expected to release his final Copa America roster later this week.
