The announcement from the Turkish footballing authorities came just 65 minutes before the match was due to kick-off at the Turk Telekom Arena, with fans already congregating.
It was originally reported that the eagerly-anticipated clash was set to take place behind closed doors, before it was decided that the game was to be called off completely.
A new date for the match is still to be confirmed by the authorities.
The news comes after Istanbul-based outfit Besiktas played in front of spectators against Antalyaspor at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium on Saturday.
