A Real move for Courtois and Arturo backs Barca
Sarri start to Chelsea with Courtois set for Real Madrid move
If Maurizio Sarri is not already developing stress lines from being Chelsea manager, then the Italian might just survive his spell – whether long or short – on the Stamford Bridge bench.
Sarri has yet to have the best players of his squad in full action due to the World Cup, has already suffered a hefty defeat to Manchester City in a cup final and could well be losing Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois over the next four days with no means of replacing them.
The Premier League opting to close its own transfer window earlier than the rest of Europe – the players coming in part – means that England is going to be the source of most rumors until Thursday when footballers will no longer be able to join EPL clubs. That means a few sweaty nights for Sarri in particular who will be hoping that Courtois can be persuaded to stay with Chelsea at least another year rather than join Real Madrid which is looking increasingly likely.
“I only want players with very high levels of motivation,” said Sarri at the weekend, a manager who could be left with the job of recruiting a top-class goalkeeper in the space of just a couple of days. However, Sports Burst has a suggestion – there is a goalie who has won three Champions League trophies in a row who will suddenly be available if Courtois leaves. Comes from Costa Rica.
The Transfer Tracker on the beIN SPORTS USA Facebook page is the place to be at 12AM ET / 9AM PT for all the latest groovy moves.
Arturo Vidal becomes Barca midfield boss
While Real Madrid is preparing its first – and potentially only – major move in the transfer market, the Barcelona unveiling machine was clicked into gear again with Monday’s presentation of Arturo Vidal.
The Chilean has signed a three-year deal with the Camp Nou club in a move that will certainly add a bit of bite to the midfield – to add to that up front with Luis Suarez. Boom and tish.
“I have moved up to a much bigger level than Bayern!” boasted Vidal who had 22 league appearances with six goals with the Bundesliga outfit last season. The exit door at the Camp Nou might also start flapping open and shut now with about 11 midfielders now on Barcelona’s books – considering only three tend to play at a time, that could be an issue.
One footballer who is definitely being shipped out after an all too brief spell is Yerry Mina who will be standing in front of the goalkeeper at Everton who caused Colombia’s elimination from the World Cup, Jordan Pickford.
The XTRA is the place to be at the special time of 10:30PM ET / 7:30PM PT for all the news of the day from Barcelona and also Real Madrid, currently on its US tour and suggesting that Keylor Navas might want to start looking at London real estate websites.
Witsel returns to European fold at Dortmund
Juventus has removed itself from the transfer tracker this summer - “we’re already competitive as we are,” beamed Max Allegri.
Inter is certainly not done with the mad-sounding move for Luka Modric still on the transfer tracker radar. The Croatian is due back from vacation this week and could have a very brief meeting with Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, with the single word of ‘no’ as the answer to any transfer request.
Alex Witsel is expected to return to European football this week with a move from Tianjin Quanjian to Borussia Dortmund. In a bit of American news, USMNT centerback Matt Miazga has joined Ligue Un side, Nantes, in what is thought to be a loan deal.
And in the coaching world, former Milan and Deportivo boss, Clarence Seedorf, has become the head coach of the Cameroon national team with Patrick Kluivert moving as his assistant.
