Real Reward for Madrid's Ugly Duckling
Modric renews deal with Madrid and Pique's quitting confession - 5 snippets of sense in a word soup of sport.

1) Guile over glamour rewarded at Real Madrid
The biggest key to success for the media-conscious Real Madrid of Florentino Perez is not only being a decent - preferably super famous - footballer but also possessing the looks of a boy band star.
Let's just say that those clips of Justin Bieber kicking about with Neymar, last summer, were studied long and hard by el Presidente.
That's partly why Angel di Maria and Mesut Ozil never quite cut the mustard for Madrid. It's hard to win the heart of Florentino when you look like Dobby the House Elf and Nemo respectively.
With this is mind, it shows just how blooming fantastic Luka Modric both needs to be and is, as the midfielder has the distinct air of a docile figure running a mid-90s video rental store rather than a stud-muffin like James Rodriguez.
Luckily, Modric the fastest mind and the quickest feet in the football. And those feet that that have been tied down to a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2020.
2) Madrid to mark European milestone in Bernabeu Pole dance
Luka Modric will be missing from Madrid's Champions League match on Tuesday night. However, the clash against Legia Warsaw will be quite the milestone as it is the team's 400th European Cup game in the institution's history.
And as much as Coach Zizou may talk the talk about everyone going into the game at the Santiago Bernabeu on a level footing, the Polish opponents are currently 13th in their domestic league after 12 games. Heck, even James has a chance of scoring if the Colombian plays.
3) Allegri admits no need for Juventus to play well against Lyon
Perhaps the most intriguing clash of the night sees Juventus traveling to France to take on a Lyon side that is more than capable of giving the Old Lady a wobble.
Although the Serie A side already have a handy lead at the top of the table at home, the critics poke that Juve are not playing particularly well this year.
"I don't know what 'playing well' means," sniffed Massimiliano Allegri in his best Jose Mourinho impression.
Both matches are live on beIN SPORTS Canada from 2:45PM ET /11:45AM PT and you can catch all the best highlights of Tuesday's games on the XTRA at 7PM ET / 4PM PT.
4) Pique admits to retirement thoughts after World Cup disaster
Gerard Pique has been talking on Tuesday - and that is always worth pulling up a chair and getting in a monster-sized bucket of popcorn sold outside the Camp Nou press room, just for these occasions.
The defender was chatting ahead of Wednesday's rather tasty visit of Manchester City but Pique stole the headlines somewhat by admitting that he seriously thought about giving up on football after Spain's disastrous 2014 World Cup campaign.
"I had perhaps won too much, too young," mused the Catalan stopper. Luckily, Luis Enrique and Lady Time and the thought of missing out on trolling Real Madrid was too much to miss.
5) Kentucky Kid rides again in MotoGP
A final bit of reshuffling has taken place in the teams for MotoGP 2017, just days after Marc Marquez was declared champion of the 2016 contest with three races to spare. The line-ups for the new season are now fixed.
Back to 2016 and the riders return to action in Australia this weekend, where once again US star Nicky Hayden will be competing by filling in for the injured Dani Pedrosa.
