The tragic pairing of soccer clubs and airplane disasters continued to unfold Monday night with the crash of a flight carrying Brazil's Chapecoense club on its way to play a historic Copa Sudamericana final in Colombia.
As expected the news has sent shock waves across the world, and specifically to the soccer community which has taken to social media to express sadness and support for those affected.
Among those who reached out were several clubs who suffered similar fates, including Manchester United, who lost players and coaches in a 1958 Munich air disaster involving the team plane.
Torino Football Club, who suffered a similar incident in 1949 -- the Superga air disaster which claimed all of its first team players' lives -- was among the first to send condolences.
Alianza Lima, a Peruvian side, that also had experience losing all its players to an air disaster in 1987, also followed suit.
In Spain, powerhouse clubs FC Barcelona and Real Madrid held moments of silence to honor those who passed away in the tragedy.
Individual players and coaches, also took to their social media accounts to express solidarity.
