Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez Credits Bayer Leverkusen Boss For Making Move
The Mexico forward says Roger Schmidt played a big part in getting him to sign with the Bundesliga club.
Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez is looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga, and credited his new manager at Bayer Leverkusen for helping entice him to make the switch.
The Mexican forward says Bayer boss Roger Schmidt let the forward know he could expect regular minutes with the Bundesliga outfit, something that has been lacking at Manchester United and during last season's loan spell at Real Madrid.
“I think the manager had a lot of influence," he told Bayer's official site. "I was looking since the season with Real Madrid came to an end. The manager talked with me and he told me that I was a very important player who could be [part of the team] match to match.”
Chicharito believes he can help the club reach its lofty goals both in the short- and long-term.
“A team that always is in the fight for the league title and that in Champions League last year was a team that had a chance to qualify," he said. "I liked the project a lot, I’m excited. I’ve got a lot of desire to play and be able to achieve important things."
