Nike has cut ties with Manny Pacquiao following strong criticism to controversial remarks he made on the subject of same-sex marriage.
The boxer came under fire Tuesday for expressing his views on homosexuality and has been promptly dropped by the sports company.
The 37-year-old Filipino, who is running for senate in his homeland, suggested approval of same-sex marriage would show "man is worse than animal". Pacquiao issued an apology for his comments but clarified that he remains against same-sex marriage for religious reasons.
A statement released by Nike on Wednesday read: "We find Manny Pacquiao's comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.
"We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao."
