The Angel Nieto Team have completed their line-up for the inaugural FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup, announcing María Herrera as 2011 125 World Champion Nico Terol’s teammate. The Spanish rider returns to the Grand Prix paddock after a year’s absence and she does so within the brand-new challenge of electric-powered motorcycle racing.
FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup is the first global racing series for electric motorcycles and becomes a key parallel path of competition. The Cup will have 18 riders who compete on identical bikes and comprises five rounds, racing alongside MotoGP™ at Jerez, Le Mans, the Sachsenring, the Red Bull Ring and Misano.

“I am really happy to have signed with the Angel Nieto Team for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, I think we will make a good team,” says Herrera. “I am already looking forward to getting to work in November at the first test, which will be my first time on the bike. I am very happy because this season I have already ridden a 600 at a good level, even though I know the move to MotoE will be a new challenge, and I will keep training for it in the same way. I have been told a few things about the bike, which I think will be very different to anything I have ridden before, but it will just be a case of adjusting. I just need to get to know the mechanics, because I know the rest of the team from last year. I like the fact the team is from Valencia because I have a special bond with this place and the atmosphere will be like a family. I am excited to return to the World Championship paddock and for as many people as possible to see me ride, because this season I have already shown that I can compete with the best.”
“I am delighted to be able to welcome María Herrera to the team,” adds Team Manager Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’. She is a fast rider and we are very happy to be able to bring her in to this new structure. We have the challenge ahead of us of winning another world title and with María and Nico Terol we can put together a winning project in this new series.”
As Herrera says, testing gets underway in November – and you can check out the Energica Ego Corsa machinery before that as the bike does a demo lap at MotoGP™ rounds this season.
