Lionel Messi Booked for Dive in First Half of Copa America Centenario Final
Referee Heber Lopes sent off one the Argentina star's opponents for a tackle on the No. 10 but also put Lionel Messi himself in the book for a dive.
OMNISPORT
Lionel Messi was put in the referee's book for a dive in the first half of the Copa America Centenario final.
Brazilian referee Heber Lopes gave the Argentine No. 10 a yellow card in the 40th minute for what he ruled was a dive in the Chile box.
Not everyone agreed, with former United States international forward Herculez Gomez among the dissenting voices.
Messi's yellow was hardly the only card Lopes handed out. The man in the middle also handed out two yellow cards to Chile midfielder Marcelo Diaz, the second for a foul on Messi, and sent off defender Marcus Rojo for a hard tackle. Chile's Arturo Vidal and Argentina' Javier Mascherano also went into the book in the first half.
