Thai Fan of the Month: Curly hair was Mika’s start to Liverpool passion
Born in 1989 to a Thai father and a Welsh mum, Mika Chunuonsee quite literally grew up living, eating and breathing football.
Excelling through the youth ranks of Cardiff City, Mika became part of the famed Welsh national youth team setup and played alongside the likes of Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey and Chris Gunter.
It wasn’t long before Thailand took notice of his availability and like they say, the rest is history. A fan-favourite with Bangkok United in the Premier League of Thailand, the energetic wing-back is unstoppable on his day.
Why Liverpool?
Back then when I was seven or eight years old, I had long curly hair and everyone used to say I looked a lot like Steve McManaman. It sounds funny but that was the main reason I took notice of this amazing club and I began supporting Liverpool and will continue till the day I die!
He will be a great signing for Liverpool 😜🙌🏻 #solanke #worldcupunder20 #champions #goldenball #YNWA #liverpool A post shared by Mika Chunuonsee (@chunuonsee16) on Jun 11, 2017 at 7:10am PDT
What is Liverpool’s biggest challenge this season?
For me the biggest weakness is our transitional play from attack to defense, we have so many attacking players and play so high and wide that when we lose the ball, there’s a lot of space for teams to counter and expose the back four. In my opinion, we need another top centre-back also to improve the team!
Where will Liverpool finish in the Premier League and Europe this campaign?
I think top three in league is the realistic target again but both Manchester clubs have improved the squad a lot and reigning champions Chelsea is still the team to beat. So top three is realistic target and I hope we can reach the quarter-finals of UCL.
Three key players for the club?
Sadio Mane, Joel Matip and Philippe Coutinho. If these three players can play well and stay fit for the entire season, we have a great chance to do something.
Your favourite fixture of the season?
I look forward to most of the clashes between the top four teams but if I had to pick one fixture, it will be Liverpool playing at Anfield against Manchester United. This was the biggest game I grew up watching as a Liverpool fan and it still is.
