Doi and Babos through to Taipei final
Misaki Doi and Timea Babos reached the OEC Taipei WTA Challenger final at the expense of Evgeniya Rodina and Kirsten Flipkens.
Misaki Doi is just one victory away from claiming her second title in less than a month after beating Evgeniya Rodina to set up an OEC Taipei WTA Challenger showdown with Timea Babos.
Doi claimed her first WTA title at the Luxembourg Open four weeks ago and the 24-year-old Japanese stands on the brink of another triumph at the Taipei Arena.
The world number 60 was unseeded when she won in Luxembourg, but is the top seed this week and showed why by seeing off Rodina 7-6 (7-3) 6-2.
Doi did not face a solitary break point and racked up 12 aces against third seed Rodina, who saved two break points but failed to hold twice in the second set after losing a first-set tie-break.
Babos has failed to win a title this year, but the fourth seed from Hungary could put that right on Sunday after seeing off Kirsten Flipkens 6-3 7-6 (7-1).
Flipkens beat in-form second seed Yaroslava Shvedova to secure her place in the semi-finals, but Babos ensured she will go no further.
Babos, the world number 84, needed just the one break to take the first set and then dominated a second-set tie-break to secure her place in the final.
