Petra Kvitova comes from a set down to beat Garbiñe Muguruza 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to seal Qatar Open crown
Petra Kvitova comes from a set down to win Qatar Open with 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Garbiñe Muguruza
Petra Kvitova came from a set down against Garbiñe Muguruza to lift her first ever Qatar Total Open crown with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Muguruza raced into a 5-0 lead in the first set, and the Spanish player looked in control. However, two late breaks of service from Kvitova certainly showed that the contest was not over just yet. The Czech player has won twelve straight games coming into the contest, including a come from behind victory over Caroline Wozniacki in the semifinals.
The second set was Kvitova find her range and a break of service at 4-2 ensured that the tie was levelled at a set apiece. The momentum was fully with the Czech competitor, and her forehands were increasingly finding their mark. Despite not playing a semi-final it was Muguruza who seemed to tire and a knee injury in the third set certainly slowed the Spaniard's progress.
An early break of service in the third was enough for Kvitova, and she masterfully held her serve to seal the Qatar Total Open crown for the first time in her career. The victory also means that Petra Kvitova moves into the top 10.

Head to Head
Kvitova has a 3-1 lead over Muguruza based on their previous meetings and has won the last three games against the Spaniard. Petra Kvitova is looking to claim her 22nd career title, following up her success at St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy earlier this month. As for Muguruza, she is aiming for her sixth career title, with her last title coming in Cincinnati last year.
Petra Kvitova showed plenty of spirit in battling back from a set down to defeat world number one Caroline Wozniacki 3-6, 7-6 7-5 in her semi-final. Whilst Garbiñe Muguruza was given a free pass to the final after number two seed Simona Halep retired following her quarterfinal victory over American youngster Cici Bellis. Tiredness could prove to be a decisive factor in the final, especially with Kvitova playing a three-set thriller against Wozniacki only last night,
