Wozniacki books US Open second-round spot
Fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki raced into the US Open second round with a comprehensive 6-2 6-0 victory over Jamie Loeb on Tuesday.
Caroline Wozniacki made a confident start to her latest quest to win the US Open as she beat American wildcard Jamie Loeb in straight sets.
Flushing Meadows has provided Wozniacki with her best grand slam results, the Dane twice reaching the final at the event, most recently 12 months ago when she was beaten by close friend Serena Williams.
Wozniacki came into Tuesday's first-round match after reaching the semi-finals in Connecticut, a morale-boosting run after earlier struggles on the hard courts.
She used that momentum to good effect against her 20-year-old opponent, cruising through 6-2 6-0 in 66 minutes.
After a confident opening service game, Wozniacki immediately applied pressure with her powerful groundstrokes, but Loeb was able to save two break points.
Wozniacki moved ahead in the fourth game, however, before breaking again in the eighth to take the opening set.
Any resilience Loeb had briefly shown quickly disappeared in the second as Wozniacki exerted her dominance, with her serve working particularly well.
The fourth seed capitalised on Loeb tiring to take all six games and will now meet either Christina McHale or Petra Cetkovska in round two.
