Simon named new WTA CEO
The WTA Board of Directors has voted Steve Simon as its new chief executive officer.
Steve Simon has been announced as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the WTA to replace Stacey Allaster.
Allaster confirmed that she would be leaving her position as chair and CEO of the organisation in order to dedicate more time to her family last month.
The WTA's Board of Directors has now confirmed that Simon - the tournament director and chief operating officer of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells since 2004 - was unanimously voted as Allaster's successor.
"I am humbled and at the same time very excited about the opportunity that has been presented to me by the Board," Simon said.
"I will be focused on building upon the successful platforms that have been put in place by my predecessors, Stacey Allaster and Larry Scott, with a sole focus on driving excellence and innovation, while creating a premium experience for the fans."
WTA founder Billie Jean King added added: "His track record is marked by success. He is thoughtful, respectful and he has excellent business judgment."
