Berdych to face Garcia-Lopez in Shenzhen final
Tommy Robredo failed to reach a second successive Shenzhen Open final, as Tomas Berdych and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez advanced to the decider.
Tomas Berdych overcame Tommy Robredo and a series of lengthy rain delays to reach the final of the ATP Shenzhen Open, where he will face Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
Czech Berdych, seeded first for the World Tour 250 series event in China, overcame the Spanish veteran 6-1 6-4 in one hour and 14 minutes on Sunday.
Robredo, who lost to Andy Murray in last year's final, fought back from a comprehensive loss in the first set, when he was broken twice without troubling his opponent's serve, to produce an improved showing in the second set, but ultimately proved unable to halt the world number five's march into the decider.
Berdych will fancy his chances in the final after sending down eight aces and taking three of the four break-point chances he was presented with, while saving his own serve four times in the second set.
In the other semi-final, fourth seed Garcia-Lopez came from behind to upset second seed Marin Cilic 1-6 7-5 6-3 in two hours and 28 minutes.
Croatian Cilic sent down 19 damaging aces in the contest, but found his Spanish opponent in determined mood, Garcia-Lopez saving six of the nine break points he faced throughout to advance to the final.
