Rafael Nadal is making good progress from his wrist injury ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio, says his coach Toni Nadal.

Nadal's uncle revealed the 14-time grand slam champion and 2008 gold medallist had come through an intense training session with Andy Murray as he looks to make his return in Brazil.

The Spaniard has not competed since the French Open when he was forced to retire ahead of his third-round match with Marcel Granollers.

His participation in Rio was confirmed earlier this month when the International Tennis Federation cleared him to play despite his lack of Davis Cup matches.

And Toni Nadal is confident the 30-year-old is on course to feature in the men's singles.

"We started to intensify training in view of being able to be in time for the opening ceremony," Toni Nadal told Cadena Ser.

"Training with Andy Murray was the first really hard [session] with another 'top' player and we are very happy. Things went well

"There are doubts about his game, [but] I think that it is normal.

"These are the same questions that we have after a period of inactivity.

"To start [his return] with the Olympics is not easy, here you want to do your best and from day one you can meet a rival of the highest level .

"Rafael will go [there] with the idea of doing a good job. We realise that [may] not be easy but I always hope that things go well. 

"If we have some luck in the draw and can go step by step maybe these things can go well."
