O'Connell awaiting scan, O'Mahony ruled out
Ireland face an anxious wait to find out the extent of injuries to Paul O'Connell and Jonathan Sexton, but Peter O'Mahony is out.
Paul O'Connell's Rugby World Cup remains in the balance as he awaits the results of a scan in hospital following his hamstring injury against France.
The second row and captain left the field on a stretcher during the 24-9 victory and coach Joe Schmidt acknowledged the prognosis did not look good immediately after the game.
O'Connell will bring an end to his illustrious international career if he is unable to feature again in the competition, but Ireland hope there will be good news on his condition later on Monday.
They are also awaiting further news on fly-half Jonathan Sexton, but back-row Peter O'Mahony will play no further part.
"Ireland flanker Peter O'Mahony has been ruled out of the rest of the Rugby World Cup after sustaining a knee ligament injury against France yesterday," the Irish Rugby Football Union said in a statement.
"Team captain Paul O'Connell and Jonathan Sexton, who were also taken off during the 24-9 win in Cardiff, will undergo scans today to determine the extent of any injury.
"No decision on squad replacements for Peter O'Mahony or Jared Payne has been made as yet."
