Habana equals Lomu try record in South Africa rout
Bryan Habana stands on the cusp of Rugby World Cup history after scoring in a hat-trick in South Africa's Pool B rout of United States.
Bryan Habana scored a second-half hat-trick to equal Jonah Lomu's record of 15 Rugby World Cup tries as South Africa battered United States 64-0 on Wednesday.
The jet-heeled wing went into Wednesday's Pool B contest three adrift of Lomu, but he is now level with the New Zealand great after the Springboks ran riot in the second half at London's Olympic Stadium.
South Africa were just 14-0 up after a sloppy first-half showing, with Damian de Allende's maiden Test touchdown and a penalty try all they had to show for their efforts.
But Habana took just one minute of the second half to get on the scoresheet and, after Bismarck du Plessis and Francois Louw also touched down, he scored twice in two minutes to level with Lomu.
Habana almost slid in for a fourth try but failed to ground the ball, before Louw's second, a Jesse Kriel score and Lwazi Mvovo's late effort took South Africa's tally to 10 for the match and they can now look forward to a last-eight showdown with either Wales or Australia.
