Maurizio Sarri has revealed that he wants to have “fun” as Chelsea manager and that he is not interested in the transfer window, as the Italian coach was unveiled as the new manager of the West London club on Wednesday afternoon.
Sarri, 59 was finally introduced to the media after a long wait after Chelsea dismissed compatriot Antonio Conte last week.
When asked about the transfer window, Sarri revealed that he was not interested in the circus of bringing in new players and elected to improve the players in his squad.
“I want to clarify that I am a pitch manager more than a general manager. I am one of the few managers who is bored by the transfer market, I don’t want to talk about the transfer market and I’m not that interested in it.“
“I think our task as managers are growing the players that we have.”
Sarri who had formally lead Napoli to second place in Italy last year was asked about his plans in the club and reflected that he just wanted to have fun whilst at Stamford Bridge, whilst keeping Chelsea competitive.
“My goal is to have fun as long as I am here, and possibly being competitive in all the competitions till the end.”
“My personal objective is to have fun because I think that in life the biggest gift you may receive is to have fun while you do your job. Few people have this, but I hope this will happen to me”
The Italian coach will now immediately get to work with his new side, and their first preseason friendly will be against Australian side Perth Glory on the 23rd of July.
