Manchester City complete long-awaited Mahrez swoop
After a move for the Leicester City winger fell through in January, Premier League champions Manchester City have snapped up Riyad Mahrez.
Riyad Mahrez has completed a long-awaited move to Premier League champions Manchester City for a reported fee of £60 million from top-flight rivals Leicester City.
The 27-year-old Algerian international has signed a five year deal with the Citizens and has been handed the number 26 shirt. Mahrez, who was a part of the Leicester City side that won the Premier League in 2016, had come close to signing for Pep Guardiola's side in the January window and had handed in a transfer request, one which was eventually turned down by the Midlands club.
Speaking to the Manchester City website, Mahrez revealed he is raring to go with his new side. “I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola,” Mahrez said.
“Watching them from afar has been a pleasure. Pep is committed to playing attacking football, which is perfect for me, and City’s performances last season were outstanding. They’re redefining the English game and I wanted to be a part of it. “I think we can be successful over the coming years and I believe my own game can develop under Pep’s management.”
